Sheet metal and laser cutting cost calculator
Go from a drawing to a job budget. Extract part geometry from DXF and estimate material and laser cutting costs using thickness, quantity and rates.
- Separate material and labour costs
- Net part weight with holes deducted
- Compare quantities, materials and your own rates
How much does a sheet weigh?
Solid rectangular sheet without holes. Density 7,850 kg/m³. Actual density depends on the alloy. Calculate cutting costs and net part weight from DXF in the workspace.
Three steps to move forward
- 01
Upload DXF or select parts from your library.
- 02
Choose steel, stainless steel or aluminium, thickness, quantity and rates.
- 03
Review the cost breakdown, save a variation and request manufacturing if needed.
What determines a sheet metal part's cost?
Material consumption uses the part's minimum bounding rectangle, sheet thickness, density and price per kilogram. Holes reduce the finished part's net weight, but are not deducted from this material cost calculation. Part weight and material cost therefore use different areas.
Laser cutting cost uses cut length, a time coefficient and the hourly rate. A longer contour or more holes can increase the cost even for a small part. Estimates exclude VAT; delivery, finishes and further operations need to be addressed in a manufacturing quote.
Frequently asked questions
Can I calculate a price directly from PDF or STEP?
Automatic cost estimation uses DXF. Attach PDF and 3D models to a manufacturing request or include them in an offer with a manually entered price. Vector PDFs can be converted to DXF with a verified scale.
What does comparing variations cost?
The first successful estimate of a file uses one credit. Further changes to quantity, material, thickness and rates for the same file use no additional credit. Twenty credits are available each month.
Is the result a binding manufacturing price?
No. It is an estimate based on your inputs. Send drawings and requirements to PARTORY for a specific manufacturing quote.
